How to Find Unique Inspiration and Use It Effectively

One of the biggest questions I get asked is: How do I find inspiration that feels personal and unique? In a world where algorithms feed us the same recycled images, it’s easy to feel stuck in a loop of sameness. But real inspiration the kind that fuels authentic personal style comes from unexpected places, not from scrolling endlessly through Pinterest.

Rather than searching for inspiration, think of it as noticing it in everyday life. Pay attention to the details that catch your eye the way someone layers textures, a striking colour combination, an unexpected silhouette. When you come across something that excites you, save it. Screenshot, snap a photo, make a quick note. These don’t need to be perfectly curated or aesthetically pleasing; they just need to speak to you. Over time, this becomes your personal archive your own reference library, far richer than anything an algorithm could curate for you.

Curating Your Feed for Better Inspiration

If you’re unsure where to begin, start by refining who you follow.

• Fashion magazines like Vogue or Harper’s Bazaar often highlight emerging designers, stylists, and tastemakers. Follow their contributors and see who they engage with.

• High-end brands post editorials that set the tone for trends. Even if you don’t buy their pieces, you can absorb the mood and aesthetic.

• Small designers often feature creative styling and real-life muses. They showcase fashion in an intimate, aspirational way.

• Stylists are goldmines of inspiration. Instead of following celebrities, follow the people behind their looks. If you admire someone’s red carpet style, look up their stylist and follow their work.

• Street style photographers capture real people with incredible personal style. Follow accounts dedicated to fashion weeks and global street style.

Beyond Fashion: Expanding Your Inspiration

True style isn’t just about clothing it’s about feeling

• Art, architecture, interiors if something moves you, save it. The colours, textures, and shapes you gravitate toward in other areas of life may translate into your wardrobe.

• Films and TV shows offer incredible visual storytelling. If a character’s style resonates with you, take note of how they mix proportions, colour palettes, or accessories.

• Reverse image search is a powerful tool. If you see a reference image you love but don’t know where it’s from, use Google’s image search to trace its origin and uncover even more inspiration.

The key takeaway? Inspiration isn’t something you find it’s something you train yourself to notice. Once you build this habit, your style will evolve naturally, and you’ll never need to rely on trends to tell you what to wear.
