How to Pack Like a Stylist

Because you’re not going on holiday to wrestle your suitcase.

Here’s the thing about holiday packing: it brings out our most chaotic selves. Suddenly, we forget how we dress in real life. We pack 17 outfits for 5 days. Clothes we never wear at home. Shoes that don’t go with anything. And a dress we’ve “been meaning to wear” for three years.

Let’s change that.

Packing well isn’t about more outfits it’s about better planning. The goal is a suitcase that gives you options without overwhelm.

Here’s how to think like a stylist when you pack:

1. Start with your daily rhythm, not your fantasy

Ask yourself: What will I actually be doing each day? Beach? Sightseeing? Evenings out? Then plan your looks around your real itinerary not your Pinterest board.

2. Choose a colour palette

Pick 3–4 colours that work together. That way, everything can mix and match. Neutrals with one or two accents work best. Think: navy, white, camel, and one bold colour like red or emerald.

3. Build outfit formulas

For each day or setting, use a “core + layer + finish” formula:

  • Core: your base : tee, shorts, dress, trousers

  • Layer: something that adds shape or function : shirt, jacket, kimono

  • Finish: accessories, sunglasses, bag, sandals

That’s how you create cohesion without effort.

4. Limit shoes, elevate accessories

Shoes are bulky. Accessories aren’t. Stick to 2–3 versatile pairs and let your jewellery, scarves, sunglasses, and belts carry the variety.

5. Don’t pack for your alter ego

If you don’t wear heels at home, you won’t wear them on holiday. Pack for your style not the person you think you “should” be.

Style isn’t about how many outfits you pack. It’s about feeling amazing in what you actually wear.
